Another gem (thinking back to a recent post on Life Expectancy):

"6. "People live longer in some countries because of their socialist health care systems."

When you hear this, ask if the people in those countries didn't live longer before they nationalized their health care systems. Ask how many people in those countries died on their highways, were killed in combat, shot by criminals, addicted to drugs, were severely overweight or in poor health when they arrived as illegal immigrants. "

I do not intend to be a ward of the state. My wife is now in the hospital recovering from major surgery. We are working on discounts with the Hosp and the Dr. Everyone is cooperating well with us. We are self employed, the original way of American entrepreneurs of "pulling the wagon", cannot buy insurance at reasonable cost, and the insurers want to exclude too many past conditions from future coverage. We were simply squeezed out with major rate increases 'til we had to cry "uncle". I am a Vietnam Vet, and have to pay my way at the VA, but it is much better than nothing, and I am grateful for the VA. Service of the VA is a contractual commitment of the Gov't with vets who have honorable service for the Nation, and is not welfare. My wife has been with Samaritan Ministries for years. I do not want legislation that will eliminate, nor tamper with Christians sharing health costs.

In some countries, the government unbanned chewing gums in order to help smokers quit smoking. It somehow works. Maybe you would like to add this on your list to help quit smoking. :D

that red tape kind of thinking drives me nuts. it's why our health care costs are so expensive to begin with. well, that with the letigious nature of society. there is no free lunch. in any case, yes options are really really good!

Dear Friends of Life and the Lord!

I am Bill Keller, founder of www.liveprayer.com the world's largest
interactive Christian website. Every day since we signed on in August 1999,
I have written a Daily Devotional that now goes to over 2.4 million opt in
subscribers worldwide. This nation is not due the wrath of God for our sins
and wickedness, we are OVERDUE His wrath and judgment. If for nothing else,
the fact that we practice legalized infanticide, slaughtering over 4,000
innocent babies every 24 hours. Below, is a brand new YouTube video I
created that is very harsh, but an accurate depiction of this barbaric
practice of killing babies. Our incoming President is a man who has voted
100% to support the legalized killing of babies at any stage, and he is no
better than another politician 60 yrs ago who was also a proponent of death.
Please send this short 1:25 second video to everyone connected to your
ministry, and ask them to forward it to everyone they know as well. People
must wake up and stop this barbarism before God's patience runs out and we
are turned into another Sodom and Gomorrah.

Just came across this site. It's a good example of how citizens can take action apart from government--and even apart from the commercial sector--to address their own needs. Getting the public policy right is important, but so is providing alternatives to public policy altogether.
