About The Alliance of Health Care Sharing Ministries
The Alliance of Health Care Sharing Ministries was formed to serve the common interests of faith-based ministries which facilitate the sharing of health care needs (financial, emotional, and spiritual) by individuals and families. The Alliance is committed to advocacy in the public policy arena on issues of importance to health care sharing ministries.
One of the key public policy issues facing health care sharing ministries in the coming year is that of states considering the adoption of laws requiring citizens or employers to purchase health insurance. Such laws are problematic due to our ministries’ non-insurance approach to sharing in health care costs and needs.
Our mission is to:
- Inform legislators of the important work and benefit of health care sharing ministries
- Protect the liberty of our member ministries to practice their religious convictions in health care
- Seek exemptions from mandates requiring our members to purchase health insurance
- Seek exemptions from mandates requiring employers to provide health insurance
- Seek to be on an equal footing with other health care solutions with respect to federal and state tax codes
- Encourage our member ministries to continue serving their members with this crucial, private sector, charitable solution to challenges in the health care arena
